Hello Insiders: We’ve added a way to search over your recent files to the Windows Office applications

By Theo Lorrain-Hale on December 3, 2018

Hello, my name is Theo and I am a Program Manager in Office and I work on experiences that help people find and create files in Office. Over the past few months our team has been busy reading and listening to the feedback you’ve given us to see how we can improve the experiences finding files in Office. And one thing that many people requested was the ability to search for files the you’ve recently opened. Well, we heard you loud and clear and just started the release of a file search experience to the Office Home page that searches over your recent and pinned files!

As Office Insiders you will be some of the first people to experience file search in the File -> Home experience. Over the next few months we are working on improving this search experience and we definitely want to hear your first impressions on the feature! We would like to know how we can make search work better for you. So please send feedback using the smiley buttons in the top right while using file search on the Home Page. Also we have a special request when writing feedback about search please use the hashtag #OfficeFileSearch so we can easily find your feedback and respond. For those of you who don’t see search yet, please be patient, we are releasing this feature slowly along with a few different variants to see how it improves your experience.

This was a fun feature to work on and I am certain we will get awesome feedback from you all to help us improve it. In the meantime enjoy a short GIF I created to show search in action.
